Summary
Losing It is a tense, backrooms-style horror experience built in Unreal Engine for the Full Sail Hall of Fame 2025 game jam (theme: Chasing Your Dream). Our team flipped the theme on its head by treating the “dream” as a nightmare: the player must search a claustrophobic environment for a key and escape a room while avoiding a hostile creature that will pursue them if spotted. After fleeing the immediate threat, the player discovers they are still trapped in the dream — the only way to end the sequence is an intentionally disturbing, final in-game death that serves as the nightmare’s resolution. Designed and completed within a 24-hour jam window, the project focuses on atmosphere, tension, and a psychological twist ending.
Contributions & Responsibilities
- Designed and scripted the creature’s AI perception and pursuit systems.
- Implemented core mechanics such as item pickup (key), door/escape logic, and the win/lose flow within the 24-hour constraint.
- Designed the maze layout and room progression to maximize tension, control pacing, and create meaningful choke points and sight-lines for encounters.
- Integrated ambient soundscapes, footsteps, and jump-scare triggers to heighten immersion.
